In the closing weeks of the National Football League the UFL has proven itself a good breeding ground for talent as dozens of UFL players have been signed by the NFL. In an interview with the Tampa Bay paper Michael Spurlock credited the UFL for being in playing shape.
I know it is now a day or two past 2009 but I thought now was as good a time as any to look back over the wild ride that was 2009 for the UFL. 2010 will be a big year for the United Football League – two new teams, a local presence, expanded media and marketing efforts, and more games will hopefully conspire to produce a successful second season. Before the announcements and the true off season begin, however, let’s look back at the top nine moments of 2009.
Year one of the United Football League certainly had some notable moments, players that emerged with surprising talent and potential, resulting in some key signings to the NFL with success, legitimizing the UFL as a viable place to not only find truly talented players, but for athletes to sharpen their skills and quarterbacks to get playing time instead of riding the bench…. With the inception of a second year come many questions that have been on the minds of a lot of sportswriters and fans alike.
The United Football League announced today that five additional UFL players have joined NFL teams. Since the UFL’s season concluded on November 27th, 18 players have been signed to NFL teams’ active roster(s) and/or practice squad(s).

The United Football League will expand by two teams. That much, we know. The question remains – which two markets will be joining the UFL? That is why we are keeping track of public statements, gossip, rumors, and trying to read the tea leaves. The “Expansion Horse Race” is our clearinghouse for that information.
