Breaking: Ahman Green to UFL?

Ahman Green.Ahman Green has revealed only minutes ago on 1620am “The Zone” (Omaha’s ESPN Radio) that he wants to play for the Omaha Nighthawks franchise in the United Football League. This comes as somewhat surprising news given Green’s stature and NFL veteran status – apparently the NFL is unwilling to pick him up.

While things may yet shake out otherwise, Green went on record with The Zone to say that not only would he be interested in playing for the UFL, but he’d be willing to tryout. Green’s active campaign for the UFL may catch many off guard – Green was drafted in the third round of the 1998 NFL draft to the Seattle Seahawks. In 2000, Green found his way to the Green Bay Packers, where he was voted to the NFL Pro Bowl each year from 2001-2004. Within those years with the Packers, Green earned more yards from scrimmage and more rushing yards than any other NFL player. In 2003, Green broke the Packers’ record for rushing in the regular season, with 1,883 total rushing yards.

Ahman Green’s interest in the Nighthawks specifically should come as no surprise, though. The runningback attended high school in-state and was a three-year starter at the University of Nebraska.

Oh, and “The Zone” guys? They’re pretty wild over the affordability of UFL season tickets. One caller to the show: “I had no interest being here in Lincoln, but Green playing makes me want to buy a jersey.”

  1. Keep having name power the likes of Culpepper and now Green and this 2nd year may be more breakout that most would have imagined.
