Pro Football Talk is reporting a rumor that the National Football League made an offer to buy part of the United Football League, and that the UFL made a counter-offer to the NFL.
The estimation from National Football League Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith that, on a scale of 1 to 10, the chances of a lockout happening in 2011 are “a 14” isn’t good news for fans of NFL teams.
It could be the best news yet for the United Football League, however.
There is no doubt there are plenty of passionate United Football League fans. There also is no doubt that plenty of those same passionate UFL fans can’t seem to see the forest for the trees. Of all the aspects of the UFL which have caused hand wringing from fans, both current or potential, none has elicited more fear than the potential of the UFL becoming a “feeder league” for the National Football League, either officially or unofficially. Shortly ago, Mike Florio of Profootballtalk reported that J.P. Losman had agreed to sign with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, with Losman visiting Oakland today for a physical. PFT was told that Losman’s stint with the United Football League’s Las Vegas Locomotives under the direction of coach Jim Fassel was the impetus behind Oakland’s move. This evening, UFL Access can confirm PFT’s report. J.P. Losman will indeed find time with the Oakland Raiders this season. (Image, left, property of the NFL.)
After failing to be signed last week following a work out with the Cleveland Browns, another struggling NFL team has taken a close look at DeDe Dorsey. Dorsey worked out for the St. Louis Rams today, calling the experience “phenomenal”. The Rams are a one-win team in desperate need of a spark – any kind of spark.
Florida Tuskers (6-0) travel to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, home of the inaugural UFL Championship Game. The Tuskers aim to derail the Las Vegas Locomotives (4-2). Winner takes home the Hambrecht Trophy.
The United Football League opened camp in Orlando, Florida and Casa Grande, Arizona today. The first official practice today was the New York Sentinels at 8:30 AM at the Citrus Bowl. This followed team meetings yesterday as the league and the coaching staffs work overtime to get the players ready to play come October 8.

I showed up at Lincoln High School in San Diego California not knowing what to expect. From what I heard of the tryouts that took place in Florida, with the long line of hopeful players trying to earn a spot, I thought I would see the same thing here.
