Not a bad name. It at least references the proximity to Hollywood, and also "glitzy" Las Vegas.

Good point. They will want to differentiate. Didn't consider the Galaxy.

Well if they play in the same stadium why not the Stars and have the name recognirion like Bears/Cubs,Lions/Tigers,Falcons/Hawks,Eagles/Flyers,Panthers/Bobcats,
Patriots/Revolution,Dolphins/Marlins,Colts/Pacers and Ravens/Orioles?

And besides if they're the Las Vegas Stars then they only play 1 game in L.A. anyways.

A fair point Regina. There are really many considerations to be had. Fortunately we will know relatively* soon what names they choose, largely based off the Name-a-Team contest.

It probably WILL happen come 2010, when the Vegas/LA team will split into two teams: the Las Vegas Aces and the Los Angeles Stars (emphasis on "probably WILL").

Yeah. I think we can definitely count on Vegas and LA both having their own teams in 2010. Those markets just seem too hard to ignore.

Isn't Vegas, although it is known as Sin City, pretty Mormon? Its one of the only place in Nevada with no State Regulated and Legal Prostitutes right?

too generic.
This coming from someone who suggested Los Angeles Stars and Las Vegas Aces.
* The Los Angeles Condors name references the California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus), a species that played an important role in the culture of several California-based Native American tribes.
* The Los Angeles Guardians name plays off of the idea of "guardian angels", a reference to the derivation of the city's name.
* Las Vegas Liberators, Marauders and Thunderbirds all draw upon the importance of Nellis Air Force Base in the region's history. When Nellis was an Army Air Corps aerial gunnery training facility, both B-24 Liberator and B-26 Marauder crews underwent instruction there. Nellis is also home to the USAF Air Demonstration Squadron, aka "The Thunderbirds".
I'll concede that Sidewinders, Venom and Vipers are a bit more generic. The first are meant to pay homage to any number of deadly creatures that call the Nevada deserts home, while the latter was primarily included to play off of the alliterative nickname factor.

Excellent breakdown of names based on historical significance. I hope a league representative sees your post. (Fair chance they might.)

"LAS VEGAS" means "fertile plain" in ESPANOL, has nothing to do with "guradian angels".
STARS refers to Hollywood and is just unique enough not sound like something out of af2. And ROYALS and ACES refers to Las Vegas's gambling history. Most people outside of Vegas think of gambling when they think of Vegas, not rattlesnakes, Nellis Air Force base, or Condors(bet most people don't even know what a Condor(Gymnogyps californianus) is).
They tested the stealth bombers used in the Persian Gulf War in 1991 too.

"LAS VEGAS" means "fertile plain" in ESPANOL, has nothing to do with "guradian angels".
Which is why I placed the Guardians team name suggestion under a heading that solely read "Los Angeles", as opposed to "Las Vegas", or "Los Angeles-Las Vegas".
Los Angeles means "the Angels" in Spanish... hence, the tie-in to Guardian Angels... hence, my suggestion of Los Angeles Guardians.
STARS refers to Hollywood...
I would have never guessed. Sort of like the old Hollywood Stars of baseball's Pacific Coast League.
... and is just unique enough not sound like something out of af2.
"Unique" like Dallas Stars (NHL) "unique"? Or, "unique" like their expansion AHL affiliate the Texas Stars? Perhaps you're talking "unique" like the Huntsville Stars of minor-league baseball's Southern League?
And ROYALS and ACES refers to Las Vegas's gambling history.
Maybe that's why Las Vegas' current ABA franchise opted for the Aces name. Hell, gambling is big in Reno, as well. Which likely explains the name of the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League. However, I don't believe the ECHL's Alaska Aces or EPHL's Brooklyn Aces utilize gambling themes.
Most people outside of Vegas think of gambling when they think of Vegas, not rattlesnakes, Nellis Air Force base, or Condors(bet most people don't even know what a Condor(Gymnogyps californianus) is).
Then again, when branding a professional sports franchise, one most often seeks to appeal to the fans INSIDE the target market, as opposed to those OUTSIDE of it. After all, the fans inside of the market are the ones the team is hoping will support it week-in and week-out. So, it can be argued that a franchise seeking to establish a strong brand for itself amongst said local fans might want to adopt an identity that helps it stand-out in the marketplace. In the case of a Las Vegas-based professional football franchise, that could mean selecting a name and logo that avoids getting lost in the shuffle of the plethora of gambling-related branding that undoubtedly exists in the city.

I like Los Angeles Condors ; any LA team name should be or easily translated to Spanish.
Like El Condor (singular); Los Condores(plural)
I like the Marshals. Nice Southwest theme.
Call them the LA Marshals for thir LA games and the Las Vegas Marshals for their games in Vegas. Both the helmets below look good, but we'd have to keep "LV" out of the logo since some games would be played in LA.

Still taking the viewpoint of having two separate sets of uniforms for season one as per an earlier post that I had made. Los Angeles Stars - colors: red and gold, Las Vegas Marshals - colors: black and burnt orange or yellow.

Right. So the logo could incorporate a battleship or man o' war Spanish Armada-inspired ship of the line. It fits in with the Spanish heritage of California and I also like it because I used to be in the Navy.

The Long Beach Armada of independent minor-league baseball's Golden Baseball League already operate in Greater Los Angeles. That might "muddy" the brand a bit... at least within portions of the teams' home market. In fact, if a Los Angeles-based UFL franchise were to set-up shop at the Home Depot Center, it would be operating less than 12 miles from the Long Beach Armada's home field.
That said, I do like the sound of Los Angeles Armada.

I still like Los Angeles Condors; The California Condor is an endangered bird from southern California that has made a comeback. It also translates well into Spanish. Condor is also Condor in Spanish : plural Condores. The theme song could be El Condor Pasa an old Simon and Garfunkle song that uses Andean Indian instuments. A bird with open wings would go good across the helmet. (Ala San Antonio Wings; WFL 1975)
Either way I had a vision in a dream in 1983 that a Los Angeles football team would be called the Condors; but I have missed twice (Express and Extreme); so the third time is a charm or a strike out.
