Right choice? Yay, nay or somewhere in between?

Yeah because now they'll lose.

Yes he is at least for a 2 or 3 seasons

For now, yes. We'll see how much he can win, but this is nothing but a great hire for the UFL, as it stands. Big name and infamous recently for his rant in 2006 about the Bears. I look forward to entertaining press conferences!

Actually he was pretty damn good in Minnesota until his last year. He is a successful coach and knows the game very well. Congrats San Fran you will finally have a winning football team.

I know he was good but not good enough to beat the Giants in his home Stadium.

He is a solid coach and has been around the game a long time. I think he is a great hire.
I think he is the best coach of the 4. He fell short of the Super Bowl, but he put together some great teams (including having a big hand in building the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals).

I think that he's a great choice: I couldn't listen to the Monday Night Games on the radio because his voice hurt my ears. ;)

I think he might be one of the best, not sure. Cottrell might be a sleeper, but Fasell was pumped up.

Dont forget about his 98 Vikings team that went 15-1. Shoulve beat the Falcons in the NFC title game that year. And a few seasons later had them back to face Fassel's Giants team in which the Vikes layed a huge egg that day.

he's a great fucking hire. He only had 1 losing season in Minny in like what 9 years? and he put pretty much all of the major pieces in place for the Cardinals to make their run last year (many of their starters such as Warner, Fitz, Edge, were all brought in by Green).

icedawg - I tend to agree. He might be the best Coach of the bunch, on paper.

i think this team, asides from perhaps Orlando with Jay Gruden now there, will have the best offense. I'm curious to know what type of west coast qbs are out there that can run Green's system. I hope he will be back next year, when he was on Mike & Mike earlier this month he talked about how busy he was but said since the season was short he could do it

Coaches have multi-year deals.

Having lived in enemy territory (MN) as a Packers' fan, Green gave a lot of headaches to GB supporters. Plus, he is a player's coach, so he'll be able to draw recruits.

I'm pretty sure Pete Kendell and Josh McCown would beg to differ on the "player's coach" label. Denny likes a certain kind of player personality to make his core and then he deals with the rest (usually by benching or cutting them). Whether or not he can find the types he likes is a huge question but I'm sure most of the UFL's players will be willing to toe the line. That's one thing that appeals to me about the UFL...no egos (yet).
For a start-up league, Green is a great choice as a coach. It's also pretty clear that he knows his chances of getting back in the NFL are scant to nil. 'ell, the Raiders didn't even give him a sniff. At least Fassel was in the Redskins mix last year. Hasslet is a good choice having coached with the Sacramento Surge in WLAF ('92). Cottrel needs this opportunity to show his mettle for another shot at the NFL. All-in-all, these are motivated coaches that want the league to succeed so they can advance as well. I hope they stick it out through two years at least before jumping leagues. Perhaps their contracts already have such verbage written in.

Thank you. I chime in on the Cardinals at RevengoftheBirds.com on the SBNation Network. The UFL ought to get some "face time" there as well considering its partnership with Yahoo.
I had read that the coach's contracts are multi-year, but are there any exclusivity clauses that prevents a coach from resigning and getting hired for an NFL staff?
Looking forward to the Sacramento game. At least one person will be there. ;D

And so was Culpepper, but that doesn't assure anything now. At the top of Green's resume is three turbulent years in Arizona with a high mark of 6-10 in year one. Then a rookie coach gets the team to 8-8 in his first year and the Super Bowl the next. The question that has to play upon anyone's mind is "can he still coach?" or not? He has an eye for talent and building a team but that doesn't gaurantee success on the field.

Kind of Like how Bill Petersen was a great Coach of Coaches but had no real skill

No skill with English apparently. :D
Green coached one of the best teams in post-merger NFL history and was consistently good in Minnesota with nearly a new starting QB every season. So the fella can coach, obviously, yet the question in AZ was whether the NFL game had passed him by. As this is the UFL, the latter is irrelevant and why Green is ideal for the job.
And if the Sac game has been scratched from the schedule I'm severely bummed.

1. I guess I misunderstood your point.
2. The Vikings were not one of the best Teams post merger or else tehy would've won a SB.

I can tell Rocano is the Semantics Gargoyle: "Green coached one of the best regular-season teams in post-merger NFL history".
Regular-season excellence does not beget Super Bowl victories, granted, but it sure effects the record book and perception of that team. Green's 15-1 team made the NFL Network's Top 10 list for "dominant" teams if memory serves me. ::shrugs:: I'm positive Green's resume reads better than any other potential individual who'd like a crack at being head coach in the UFL.

I always liked Green personally. I think he will be a very good coach in this league.
His Minnesota teams were very good. How many coaches in the UFL or NFL can say their team set the record for the best offense in NFL history?
However, when he comes into Omaha, I'd love to see some of the Nighthawk players (and maybe the Nighthawk mascot, who hopefully will be the bird) do the "dirty bird" dance.
