I was wondering when the UFL picks a coach for Omaha should they select a coach well-known in the area who is successful like Orlando and Hartford did or a big name NFL coach (such as Dennis Green or Jim Fassel) who is out of job like the rest of the teams did?

2 possible college coaches when I think of this job, Mike Leach and Mark Mangino. I know these coaches are a little controversial seeing as how they lost their jobs after the 2009 season for certain reasons, but they are Big 12 coaches and have winning records on their resumes. Something to think about.
This one probably won't happen but Tom Rathman went to college at Nebraska and played & now coaches the 49ers. I'd like to see that

You gotta go with a big name.

Tom Rathman would be a good pick for local popularity reasons but I'm not sure if every one remembers him since he played fullback in the eighties

considering it's the UFL I'm not sure what a "big name" really means. Chris Palmer a big name? No, same with Jim Haslett or now Tuskers coach Jay Gruden. Rathman would be perfect, college at Nebraska and very NFL experienced

Mangino will be a great coordinator on some level in 2010 but he is grossly unhealthy.......Rathman would put fans in the Stands and that is what the UFL needs is a name who will make people want to comeout and see a game get some former huskers on the field and you have yourself a gold mine I really hope Omaha is a success so other small big cities take the chance Wichita came to mind they have college team and stadium out there and the way the UFL make places better then they way they found them it would be a good fit

I think the UFL has to stick mostly to guys who have NFL credentials and some name recognition. But name recognition could come from their time as NFL coaches (Fassel, Haslett) or there time in the same region. Getting a guy with NFL coaching experience who went to the local big NCAA team is a bonus. So, other than Rathman, are there any ex-Huskers who now coach? I still think Danny White would be great for San Antonio, but he seems pretty tied in with the Arena league.

Be realistic Mangino or Leach are not coming to the UFL.

not sure how that's not realistic, they are college coaches without an immediate job. I like my mention of Tom Rathman, I'll stick with that
