i was a zombie supporter for a time. from what i've seen on twitter, many of the other zombie fans weren't so much football fans to begin with. FWIW.

How about you give us the voting breakdown of the naming contest? It's great that you want to appease us, and I'm fine with you vetoing a name you consider too risky, but I get the feeling that this whole naming contest was a big farce. No way was Nighthawks anywhere near the top four in votes.

They never said the vote was 'whichever name gets the most votes wins'. It wasn't a farce, it was just a poll so they could see what the people of the city wanted and get ideas via write-in names as well.

I don't get where everyone gets the idea that whichever name got the most votes was going to be the name, they never presented it like that and that wouldn't be a good idea at all.

The whole "Name the Team" thing (whatever you want to call it) is a way to get names/email addresses of a bunch of potential ticket-buying fans. They probably already had the name picked out months ago.

Agreed, although Zombies grew on me after awhile. Still, it's one of those names that would have been ridiculed by the mainstream media and casual fans.

It should be at least a top 10 candidate or it isn't a contest, it's an opinion poll. There is a difference, and it's insulting to be lied to like this. Especially when the commissioner stated on the air that zombies was being given serious consideration and then the coach confirms that it was never given consideration.

If you were familiar with Rockfish or UFL West , UFL East etc you shouldn't be stunned.

The Stealth B2 Bomber is called the Spirit, just like the B-117 is the Nighthawk.

I think that is where Spirit came from, they were already thinking of the Air Force stealth aircraft type mascot. But they then realized that Spirit could have other connotations and that it sucked, so they decided not to use it and go for Nighthawks instead.

I'm a resident of Lincoln, but spend so much time in Omaha that it has become home too.
I can't wait for tickets to go on sale. 50 years down the road I want to be able to say I was there for the first season of professional football in Omaha/Nebraska

Although I have lived here for quite sometime now...I still follow all my "Pitt" teams and now the Nighthawks. I've always loved the name Bugeaters, and was really pushing for that. It wasn't selected even though I know it had some support. I assume the Zombie fans were disappointed as well.

I don't think Nighthawks was suggested by many people, but it has grown on me, and I truly love the logo.

The Zombies fans will have a Zombie Zone. I think it was really a smart move by the league to embrace that fan support. I know I want to head over to the Zombie Zone and get some pictures at some of the games.

The important thing right now is coming together and supporting our team. I really think with grass roots support, this could become huge.

New to the forum, have lived in Omaha 5 years now and love this city. Bought my season tickets a few days ago and cant wait for the home opener September 24th!! Couldnt wait for the UFL site to get merchandise up so I stopped at Buckys and bought a Nighthawks hat and went to Lawlors in the mall and picked up a Nighthawks t-shirt and hoodie. GO HAWKS!!!
