It now appears that the Orlando and New York teams will practice in Orlando during the inaugural season. Training camp and practices will apparently be held at the Citrus Bowl and surrounding facilities. Players will stay in hotels for the duration of the two month season.
PRESS RELEASE: NEW YORK (August 5, 2009) – The United Football League announced today the signing of 19 players for its New York franchise including Quarterback Quinn Gray and Running Backs Cecil Sapp and Shannon Woods. Full list after the jump.
Former Jaguars Quarterback Quinn Gray texted the UFL Access bat phone this afternoon with the following news:
“Sitting in the office with the commish as we speak, deal done, contract signed!”
As a follow up we asked him if the team was New York as he had previously indicated to which he replied: “Yes sir!”
While unconfirmed, it has come to the attention of UFL Access that one single venue may not be the plan for the United Football League’s New York franchise, at least not for the initial season. Rumors and discussion abound in our forums and elsewhere concerning the destination of the UFL New York squad, but the possibility exists the team may see play in three locations: Hofstra, Citifield, and Hartford. Citifield as a venue has probably seen the most fan interest up to this point.

When no news exists in Presidential politics the time period is referenced as “silly season” – right now, the UFL is in that mode as we have to read the tea leaves until the next announcement.
This Sunday morning an intriguing profile on UFL New York Head Coach Ted Cottrell was published that discusses Cottrell’s career path, excitement for the UFL, and reveals a bit of the hiring process that the United Football League went through as they acquired their four head coaches.
Getting something between praise and a puncher’s chance from media outlets such as ESPN and Newsday is a pretty good start for the United Football League.
