The United Football League Expansion Horse Race

Expansion consistently drives interest from United Football League fans because wide sections of the country do not have a team to call their own. It is also, perhaps, the biggest question of the off season. While the UFL will expand by two teams, at least one group seems to have been identified, and some UFL employees were speaking in “specifics” at the Championship Game no teams have been finalized as of yet. Click on the story for the “expansion horse race” as it stands now.

The UFL is Considering Up to Five Groups for Expansion in 2010

Commissioner Michael Huyghue was clear throughout his address and the following question and answer period that the UFL will be adding two teams for 2010 and that they are in discussions with five potential ownership groups for the two teams. Read the article for the rest of the details!

Hartford is team number five, who is number six?

All indications are that Hartford is officially team number five in the United Football League. Per the Hartford Courant, and other reliable sources, Northland Investment Corp. is the likely ownership group. We also received information last evening that the Hartford team has already identified a likely head coach. Commissioner Huyghue indicated to the press in Connecticut that they are the top priority for the UFL, ahead of Los Angeles, and that we can expect an announcement by the end of the year.

UFL Buzz: Expansion and the Championship Game

The forums are buzzing about expansion following last weeks interview with UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue who confirmed that two teams will be added in year two, a season which he guaranteed will happen. He also didn’t disagree with our mention of the UFL announcing those expansion teams during Championship Game week, a rumor that has persisted after Huyghue and others gave that date during the offseason.

Los Angeles and Hartford are widely presumed to be the frontrunners based off of comments of league officials, including the news that a Los Angeles ownership group had been identified. Huyghue left the door open for other cities – alluding to the possibility of Los Angeles playing in season three rather than season two.

The Morning After: Can the Tuskers be Stopped?

Game five and week three of the United Football League has hit the record books and one thing remains clear…

The Florida Tuskers are the dominant team. Period.

Their 34 to 7 victory over the California Redwoods was another reminder that they have thus far been the team to beat and that doesn’t look to change any time soon. Brooks Bollinger threw for 224 yards, 133 of those to Taye Biddle. Tim McGarigle racked up 7.5 tackles with 1 interception to lead the defense.
