Paul Pelosi seems to be loving every minute of being an owner in the United Football League. He has traveled to many of the games and before that he traveled to many of the events leading up to the launch of the league. Everywhere he traveled he seemed to have a smile on his face – owning a football team just seems to be fun for Pelosi.
Following the conclusion of the California Redwoods “Premiere Season” it appears that they are heading to San Jose for their full time home. This was a move that many had expected considering the expense of the San Francisco market, the limited availability of AT&T Park during baseball season, and the presence of the San Francisco 49′ers. Commissioner Michael Huyghue confirmed that San Jose was going to host the Redwoods following one of, if not the, most entertaining game of the United Football League season.
Despite a crowd of just 4,312, UFL general manager Rick Mueller said Spartan Stadium was a good fit for the Redwoods and that the league hopes to schedule more games in San Jose next season.
The Las Vegas Locomotives clinched a berth in the United Football League’s Championship Game tonight with a 16-10 come-from-behind over the California Redwoods in front of 4,312 fans at Spartan Stadium. The Locos scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and intercepted a Redwoods pass with four seconds remaining in the game to thwart California’s last scoring threat.
On Saturday night at 9 PM EST/6 PM local the Las Vegas Locos will take on the California Redwoods in what might be the biggest regular season game in the (short) history of the United Football League. The game will take place on the campus of San Jose State, a recently added venue. If the Locos win then they have locked up a bid to their home town Championship Game, while the Redwoods can continue to control their own destiny with a win of their own.
There will be a full schedule of football in Spartan Stadium this November with San Jose State University’s three home games and the addition of the Bay Area’s newest professional football team, the California Redwoods of the United Football League, facing the Las Vegas Locos on November 14.
