I always thought the biggest thing to be learned from the WFL was “If a team moves in the middle of the season, the league is not going to work.” That was an insane amount of teams moving during the season, which is just logistically dumb.

You’d have to look into individual states and locales. Like here in Texas it’s not allowed at locations owned by public universities, but exceptions can be made by the university president. In Utah it’s not allowed period (has to be declared a private club, basically), etc.

Florida Atlantic started in 2001 and became FBS after 4 years.

    USF started 1997, FBS 2001.

FIU started in 2001, FBS 2005

UAB started in 1991, FBS 1996

I think there’s one or two more.

There’s also several just starting teams that have the same plan. Georgia St, South Alabama, UTSA, etc.

UNLV only took 10 years, but that was back in the 70′s

Why? In the past 20 years there have been several that went from starting a team to FBS within 6-7 years, including a few in the absolute minimum amount of time.

And some of those were in markets similar or worse than SA.

Once again, it’s not that they both couldn’t exist, but that UTSA is JUST starting and trying to get to FBS.

UTSA wouldn’t care if they were already FBS.

I doubt the UFL has anything more than a 2 year deal with a cancel clause after 1 at any of their other stadiums. I’d guess that out of the 6 teams, at least half will be 1 year deals.

You don’t look for long term deals as a new league, and as a stadium you don’t give long term deals to new leagues.
