In a continuance of woes for Washington this football season, the Redskins relinquished a 4th quarter lead to the undefeated New Orleans Saints and failed to find the uprights behind the foot of kicker Shaun Suisham near the end of regulation on a 23 yard attempt – a failure that spawned a Drew Brees-led 80 yard touchdown drive that forced OT and an eventual Saints victory.
Looking to make some changes, Suisham was cut today by Washington and Graham Gano of recent United Football League fame has stepped into his shoes. Gano had an impressive résumé in the UFL this season, capped off by an overtime field goal that clinched the United Football League Championship Game for the Las Vegas Locomotives.
Although Suisham found success with his initial 13 field goals this season, his miscue against the Saints combined with dire kicking errors from 39 and 50 yards against the Dallas Cowboys several weeks ago led to the Gano replacement.
