Locos’ RB DeDe Dorsey Wins UFL Championship MVP Award

Las Vegas Locomotives runningback DeDe Dorsey has been proving why he is among the league’s elite all season, and the Locos player seized the opportunity to really shine in this afternoon’s thrilling UFL Championship game, averaging 6.0 yards on 11 carries and leading his team to an overtime 20-17 Locomotives victory.

Dorsey was the key proponent in taking the luster off the Florida Tuskers and denying Jim Haslett’s squad their undefeated UFL season. In the first half, Dorsey led a momentum-grabbing play off a shovel pass from quarterback J.P. Losman, resulting in a 17 yard gain that helped set up the Locos’ first scoring attempt, if not for Marcel Shipp’s fumble on the 1 yard line. While Las Vegas only managed a field goal in the first half, fortunately DeDe was prepared to dazzle.

Dorsey saved the spectacular for the second, scoring the team’s only two touchdowns in the game. The first came only moments into the 4th quarter, when a timely spin move straight from a video game allowed the runningback to break a tackle as he bounced outside – a solid gain that would have been something far greater if not for Florida’s Tribble making a diving save. All the same, immediately following Dorsey took off like a freight train to the right side, relying on solid blocking from his teammates to take the ball down the sideline for 38 yards and a TD. Dorsey was responsible for the Locos’ first lead of the game.

Later in the game and after the Tuskers’ Bollinger immediately found teammate Murphy in the endzone to retake the lead, Dorsey put on his figurative cape again, refusing to take a yardage loss deep in the red zone and making a determined mid-air spin and dive that recovered the yardage and nearly resulted in breaking the plane. On the subsequent third down, DeDe would not be denied as he took it up the middle for his second touchdown and a score which would secure overtime for the Las Vegas Locomotives.

After the game, DeDe Dorsey was named Most Valuable Player for his heroics in the first UFL Championship Game (2 TD, 11 carries for 66 yards), receiving the MVP trophy, hat and a $5,000 check from UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue.

UFL Access will have more on the Championship Game and RB DeDe Dorsey shortly.
