The San Jose Mercury News covered the game last night with a game recap:
Former Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman dislocated a finger and overthrew several open receivers early, but he came through when it counted, leading the Las Vegas Locos to a 16-10 win over the California Redwoods on Saturday night at Spartan Stadium.
The loss knocked the Redwoods (2-3) out of the hunt for the United Football League’s inaugural championship game, which will match the Locos (3-2) and Florida (5-0) on Nov. 27. Regardless of Thursday’s result against Florida, the Redwoods will finish third in the four-team league.
“It’s very disappointing. We just didn’t take advantage of opportunities,” Redwoods coach Denny Green said. “We held the lead most of the game and had an opportunity to increase it a couple of times. It was a case of us letting a lot of chances to score slip away.”
…
Despite a crowd of just 4,312, UFL general manager Rick Mueller said Spartan Stadium was a good fit for the Redwoods and that the league hopes to schedule more games in San Jose next season.
