UFLAccess.com News Editor Nation Hahn had the opportunity to speak with California Redwoods Linebacker Prince Kwateng on Sunday evening. Kwateng was a two year starter at Northwestern and a team co-captain his senior year. Thus far in the UFL he has accumulated 17.5 tackles, placing him in the top ten for total tackles in the league.
Nation Hahn: How do you feel that the UFL has benefited your career?
Prince Kwateng: It’s been a good opportunity, just a chance to play football. It gave me an opportunity to keep playing alongside great coaches and teammates.
NH: Has the UFL benefited your pursuit of a job in the NFL?
PK: I feel like the NFL scouts are watching, if I do what I do on the field that opportunity will arise.
NH: How has it felt to play under Dennis Green?
PK: He gives the team tips about football, perspectives we may not see otherwise. He helps us going into a game and gets us prepared very, very well.
NH: The Redwoods defense has been a strength of the team. Do you all feel like your unit puts the team in a place to win?
PK: Definitely. It’s a team game, every player on this team has done their part.
NH: Are you looking forward to this Las Vegas game?
PK: I’m really excited for this game, the team is ready to play coming off of the bye week. We’re anxious, to get out their and show how well the California Redwoods can play.
NH: Last time you all were competitive through the first three quarters. Do you feel like you can play a full 60 minutes against the Locos this week?
PK: The Locos are a great team, but if everybody on the Redwoods does their part we’ll have a chance to win. It comes down to fundamentals.
NH: What has been your best moment thus far in the UFL?
PK: Making the team was the best feeling, when I heard the final cuts it was a great moment for me – coming straight out of college and playing against NFL players. I felt blessed to be part of the team and to have the opportunity to start some games. That was my biggest accomplishment so far, the best feeling.
NH: Would you be happy to be back in the UFL for a second season?
PK: I’d be happy to be back, just having the opportunity to play football is my goal. I want to have the longest career possible. God willing I will make it into the NFL but if not I’ll be happy in the UFL.
NH: What do you think of the league after playing four games for the first year of the UFL?
PK: The organization of the league has surprised me. The facility in Casa Grande is superb. The Coaching staff has done a great job to weld 50 plus guys into a team and, really, each team has an identity and that is a credit to the Coaches of each team.
