California Redwoods

Tyler Palko Joins the United Football League

Rick Mueller also managed to fit in news of Tyler Palko’s signing with the California Redwoods in his epic tweet yesterday. Palko is a promising young quarterback who will enter the competition for Redwoods starter right away after spending the preseason with the Arizona Cardinals and previously being a member of the New Orleans Saints.

Palko is perhaps best known for being the quarterback who won the starting job that forced current Ravens starter Joe Flacco to transfer to Delaware.

Palko was a member of the USA Today All American team in high school and was highly recruited by a number of colleges.

While playing for the University of Pittsburgh, Palko managed to throw for over 8,000 yards and for 66 touchdowns. He finished as one of the top three passers in Pitt history and by the end of his collegiate career was within 200-odd yards of Dan Marino’s record for most passing yards for a Pitt QB.

Palko then went undrafted and was signed by the Saints. He spent time on their practice squad but played well in his preseason games. He then was on the Cardinals roster for the 2009 preseason but was cut on September 4.

He will look to bring his collegiate success to the Redwoods beginning October 8.

  1. I am really thrilled by this news! I saw Palko play with New Orleans and he has some really impressive skills. I’m not sure how he never landed on a regular NFL roster, but I think this is a guy that just needs some playing time to showcase his skills.
Time will tell, of course, but I expect good things from Tyler Palko.
