UFL Championship Game 2nd Half and OT Recap

Perry receives the football off the opening 2nd half kick, crosses the 30, fumbles but recovers.

Pass on 2nd down. Shipp converts for first down on 2nd effort off the broken tackle. Losman sacked on following play by Florida’s Scott. An incomplete, underthrown ball to Sammy Parker sets up 3rd down. A dump off from Losman results in a positive gain but a failure to convert.

Tuskers immediately look deep for Maxwell, but a swell pass from Bollinger is bobbled incomplete. Two successive incompletes result in turnover on downs for Florida.

End around to Locos’ Thurman on Vegas’ second 2nd half drive results in positive yardage. It is announced Josh Scobey is out for the rest of the game due to back spasms after first half hit.

DeDe Dorsey sets up a second and short for Las Vegas, but the Locos fail to convert on the subsequent 3rd down, adding to their early 2nd half offensive woes.

After the Tuskers fail to find success, the Locos make little of the opportunity and are forced to punt once more, with the score remaining 7-3.

Tatum Bell takes the ball outside on 2nd down, gaining a handful and setting up 3rd and 5 on the 20. A largely well-thrown, high-lofted pass from Bollinger is batted down by Trufant, who held excellent position. Florida punts.

Marcel Shipp leads off the Locos’ drive, forcing the ball up the middle for a couple. The run brings the scoreless 3rd quarter to an end.

Losman hits Kirkus immediately to start off the 4th quarter with a 1st down. Marcel Shipp drives hard up the gut for an immediate consecutive 1st down. Locos immediately looking sharper this quarter.

DeDe Dorsey bounces outside, spins and breaks a tackle for a nice gain; a diving play by the Tusker’s Tribble saves the first down.

DeDe Dorsey dashes to the right side, breaking a huge run – Dorsey benefits from excellent blocking and carries it down the sideline 38 yards for six. Graham Gano hits the PAT and brings the score to 10-7 in favor of the Las Vegas Locomotives. It is their first lead of the game.

Spurlock returns the ball for Florida on the resulting kickoff, but is drilled at the 20 yard line after a 15 yard return by a fired up Locos squad.

Taye Biddle hops up and snags a first down pass. Tatum Bell helps set the tone for the Tuskers with another quick 1st down dash. On 2nd down, Bollinger finds Maxwell deep, connecting on a pass that suddenly brings the Tuskers to the 10 yard line.

Immediately following, Bollinger finds Murphy for a TD that caps off a 5 play, 80 yard answering drive.

On the ensuing Las Vegas drive, Losman sacked by Josh Cooper, causing a 14 yard loss on 2nd down. Losman finds Dorsey on 3rd down, but fails to put a dent in the 3rd and 22 situation. Locos go three and out as the momentum shift seems to take full effect.

A quick slant to Bobby Sippio for 1st down starts off the Florida Tusker drive.

A fumble caused by Mallard on the Tusker run attempt is fell upon in the backfield by Brooks Bollinger. Immediately following, Bollinger is hit just before the throw. The ball pops loose, the Locos recover and Pittman commits a horsecollar on the one yard line, resulting in a TD call. The play is reviewed due to a Florida challenge, but the call stands. However, the runner is ruled down at the 2 yard line, and the TD is reversed. Locos take over on the 1 after the penalty is applied.

An initial pass by Losman is incomplete in the endzone, but DeDe Dorsey leaps into the air, is spun around well short of the goal line, but a second effort recovers the lost ground and places the Locos back on the 1. Dorsey takes the ball a second time on 3rd down, and sneaks in up the middle for the touchdown.

Las Vegas goes up 17-14.

Tuskers return the ball to the 22 off the kickoff. Bollinger hits Biddle for 18 yards. A slant to Maxwell on the next play gains another quick 15 yards, with the Tuskers starting this drive much like their previous.

A couple plays later, Bollinger finds Foster, who breaks a tackle and runs it in for 6. Fassel immediately challenges. Play review finds that Foster did not break the tackle after all, and is down by contact at the 35 directly after the catch.

Locos clamp down on D and stop the Tuskers’ run on the line of scrimmage. Bollinger goes deep, but the pass is ill-attempted to Foster and sails out of bounds.

On 3rd and 9, Bollinger finds Pittman down the middle for a huge conversion well past the marker, bringing the ball to the 10 yard line. A run play and a failed pass bring up a quick 3rd and 8, and the Tuskers run into 4th down after swell Locos D in the endzone.

Tuskers tie it up 17 all after completing the field goal attempt.

Las Vegas reels off a 35 yard return to the 37 yard line off the kickoff. Losman has little opportunity off a low snap, and throws the ball away instead of forcing a possible INT. 1:52 remaining in the game.

On 2nd and 10, Losman finds a closely guarded Adam Bergen for 8 yards, bringing up 3rd and short. The pass is knocked down by the Tuskers’ Scott, bringing up 4th down with 1:26 remaining in the game.

The Locomotives down the ball at the 22, preventing a return.

Florida begins their drive with 1:18 on the clock. Bollinger throws it away to the left sideline. A slant pass to Bobby Sippio is incomplete, but pass interference is called. 1st down Tuskers on their own 29.

A screen pass to Pittman pays huge dividends, bringing the ball to the 50 with 58 seconds to go. Pittman down on the field, injured, and is eventually escorted off.

A pump fake pass by Bollinger goes down the right sideline, and Maxwell seems to make a spectacular one handed grab for a 30 yard gain – but the ball hits the ground and the pass is ruled incomplete. Two successive incomplete passes result in 4th down with 41 seconds left.

Tuskers punt from the 50 yard line, nearly blocked. As the ball reaches the 1 yard line on a bounce, the Tuskers special team leaps and flips the ball back into play high, and the ball is downed on the 10 yard line.

The Locos opt to knee it and force OT.

OVERTIME

Spurlock of the Tuskers fields the ball on the OT kickoff. Two fouls are immediately called on the Tuskers receiving corps, with the holding penalty enforced. Tuskers are moved back 10 yards and start their initial OT drive on the 8.5 yard line.

Injury update: Pittman, Jackson and Thurman are now all out for the Tuskers.

On 2nd and 7, Bollinger throws the ball behind Taye Biddle, incomplete. Dada of the Locos with the physical defense.

On 3rd and 7, Bollinger is pressured and escapes the sack. He passes and the Locos’ Trufant picks it off, immediately fumbling. Las Vegas’ Young recovers.

The Las Vegas Locomotives line up on the 14 yard line and choose to center the ball up for Graham Gano.

Graham Gano lines up for the 33 yard field goal attempt. Florida attempts to ice the kicker with the timeout.

Gano lines up once more. The ball sneaks through the right upright and is GOOD. Las Vegas pulls the upset.

Jim Fassel leaps into the air with a fist pump.
